Dr. Darren J. McAulay
personal profile

Darren has been walking, rock climbing, mountaineering, paragliding, skiing and snowboarding throughout Scotland and World-wide for over 25 years. A majority of this time has been spent in the Scottish Highlands although work has taken him to Antarctica, New Zealand, California, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Nepal, France, Spain and Italy.

Having completed a PhD. in Geology and Physics (at UMIST/University of Manchester 1992) Darren decided to pursue a career in the outdoors. Scotland provided the initial location for skiing and climbing instruction, closely followed by winter seasons working on Mt. Ruapehu, New Zealand and at Mammoth Lakes, California. In the summer of 1999 Darren started working freelance under the name Hebridean Pathways. The base being the Isle of Skye in order to provide specialized mountaineering instruction/guiding services in the Cuillin mountains and on the superb sea cliff locations in NW Scotland.

Subsequently work horizons have constantly widened with the result that Darren has spent time wandering the globe - guiding in Antarctica, the Peruvian Andes, the French Alps, Chile, Nepal and of course in Scotland!

In June 2006 Darren joined the Union of International Mountain Leaders Association (UIMLA) and is currently a member of the Syndicat National des Accompagnateurs en Montagne, France (SNAM). Darren has also qualified for instructional awards to a high level (in the UK and USA) for both skiing and snowboarding and was a member of the UK Association of Mountaineering Instructors from 1999-2013.http://www.lesaem.orgshapeimage_4_link_0
